Niacin is one of Vitamin B3 forms. It is also called nicotinic acid. The other form of Vitamin B3 is called niacinamide. Yet many clinic trials prove that at higher dose, typically in the range of 250-2000mg/day, niacin can lower cholesterol level, thus benefits cardiovascular system. Dosing use usually is started at the low-end (250mg/day) with increasing dose of 250mg each one or two weeks till 1000-2000mg/day. Note: when higher dose (above 100mg/day) of niacin is used for lowering cholesterol level, niacin may cause flushing, itching, rush of the skin as well as headaches and hypotension.
